Brainstorming.....

One of the principles in teaching is to delve and expand on subjects that appeal most to the learner. With Jay, I can do almost anything since he is very eager to learn. Whenever he is not interested in the activity I am introducing, I will modify into vehicle themes, or take any of his cartoon characters.... And he loves all his cartoons. :)
With Joy, I have to really sit and think for hours or days. Hmmmm.... Let me see, lately she often picks up flash cards of animals and sea creatures, points to pictures in books.... To specify, - various pictures of octopus, starfish, seashells, moon, star, plate, fish, jellies,
She will show me the flash card or book, points until I tell her what it is. I am very sure she knows what she is pointing to (because I sometimes purposely give the wrong information, and she will look at me, and point to the picture again)

Hmmm..... But I can't think of what to do with this information. The only activity I can think of is to do matching activities- match picture to word, picture to picture, etc... But I am bored with them. I guess Joy isn't much into them either. Oh, I have to keep in mind that Joy will 'kidnap' the worksheets if they contain the pictures she loves, and just bring it here and there without the slightest intention of using it as it's supposed to be used.

Oh, another idea. I could try making it into arts and crafts activities. Then she could have more practice with her fine motor skills. ( coloring, cutting, tracing) I'll have to see what I can find on the Internet.
Another idea.... ( Wow, blogging really helps me organize my thoughts) I could use the pictures for her to practice patterning. Joy really needs to work on that. Hmmmm.... She used to be able to follow patterns from cards. But unable to create her own consistent patterns. I have not been doing patterning for quite sometime. Have to assess her again on this.

But I have to make use of the things she love and teach her other things...

Any ideas?
