Following their pace....

I loved this article from Growing Your Homeschool. It is about the realisation and the need to follow our children's pace in their learning. For me, be it academic or life skills, we have to teach our children in their pace. My son learns some things real fast, and there are some where he needs more time to digest. Likewise, my daughter definitely needs ample time to digest a whole lot of things. Pushing them too hard will only hinder their development. I hope I will always keep this in mind when I am with the kids.

What to teach a Kindergartner

Here is a link I know I would go back to again and again when I am having trouble finding ideas on what to teach my children.

Tears of a special needs sib

As I read this article over at Hopeful Parents, I just knew I needed to keep this in mind. I don't want to unintentionally hurt my little boy, assuming that he must bend and give in to his sister all the time too. It's a lesson I need to keep in mind. Thank you Michelle, for this sharing.

One day you will....

I just need to share this, for everyone out there. And for myself.... to keep going on and on....
I found this from kidz.

Hope!

This is another moment in my life when I felt that God is trying to talk to me, and to comfort me. With no apparent reasons, I was feeling extraordinarily irritated with Joy yesterday. I would blow up with a single cry from her, and I just could not bring myself to comfort her or to give assurance to her when she cries. I was feeling angry with myself, and kept away from her, trying hard not to hear her, so that I would not spank her. Last night, I mentally scolded myself for being such a lousy mother. What sort of mother would feel so angry with her own kid, that the kid had to keep away from her? I knew that stress is getting at me. I am just not prepared to face it. yet.

This afternoon, as I sat down to relax and go through my favourite blogs, I came across this, shared by http://asliceofsmithlife.blogspot.com/. How I cried as I watched the video. It was like a wake up call for me, to not give up on my own daughter. The Lord wanted to remind me that I am not alone in this. I am praying that He will strengthen me and guide me through.

Life Without Limits

An article I read over at Heart Of The Matter : http://heartofthematteronline.com/life-without-limits/ is both inspiring and a reminder for me. Do read it, and be reminded of God's wonderful gifts to us.

Never to give up

Had a chat with an ex colleague the other day. She has a 19 year old daughter with autism. Her sharing and stories are valuable as I can relate to some of the situations. She warned me about how things will get more and more difficult as my daughter grows older, especially in her academic. If she managed to attend normal primary school, I will need to help her with her homework, go to school to copy the list of homework written on the board, help her to understand the lessons by after schooling using her learning style, as primary schools has to cater to so many students and are prone to be teacher centered.
For this friend, it's quite tiring and she gave up when her daughter is in primary 3. According to her, the lessons gets harder and her daughter could not keep up. She even stopped attending her special needs classes. In the end, she was left on her own in academic. The daughter did badly in her SPM and now working with a group of special needs, packing onions and such for companies.
Her stories and warning are precious lessons to me. I had to keep reminding myself not to give up on my daughter. I promised myself that I would read this reminder every time I get tired and when things get tough.
