Never to give up

Had a chat with an ex colleague the other day. She has a 19 year old daughter with autism. Her sharing and stories are valuable as I can relate to some of the situations. She warned me about how things will get more and more difficult as my daughter grows older, especially in her academic. If she managed to attend normal primary school, I will need to help her with her homework, go to school to copy the list of homework written on the board, help her to understand the lessons by after schooling using her learning style, as primary schools has to cater to so many students and are prone to be teacher centered.
For this friend, it's quite tiring and she gave up when her daughter is in primary 3. According to her, the lessons gets harder and her daughter could not keep up. She even stopped attending her special needs classes. In the end, she was left on her own in academic. The daughter did badly in her SPM and now working with a group of special needs, packing onions and such for companies.
Her stories and warning are precious lessons to me. I had to keep reminding myself not to give up on my daughter. I promised myself that I would read this reminder every time I get tired and when things get tough.
