A round up...

Last week has been a tiring week. First, our little boy got sick, then hubby decided to enjoy the pampering too and of course, I got sick too. I spent most afternoons having naps and just resting. Hubby had to take care of everything else. This week, we both still have coughs but most of the time feeling quite well.
Throughout the week, 'homeschooling' still continues. In fact, it has intensified. Little Jay has got it into his head that mommy will be able to create anything that he demands in the name of 'crafts'. Everyday after lunch, he will ask for crafts and at night he will ask for 'schoolwork'. (I will try to upload photos when I have more time. Uploading seems to take ages). To sum up, we did a lot of colouring (colour recognition), cut and paste activities, singing, ipad apps - numbers and number concept, colours and shape recognition, plus 2 hands on crafts - a lamb and a train craft. That's a lot, considering that both Jay and I are not feeling well. (He refused to sleep, and kept pestering me. So...)
On the other hand, I am slowly trying to assess Joy's academic level. From her ABA therapy last year, she mastered the uppercase and lowercase alphabets, numbers 1-10, counting1-15, colours, shapes, match the same, find the difference, recognizing some English words and some Chinese words. - all these, while she was only 3 years old. (her birthday is in July). This year, her progress reported that she knew most of the words based on the themes provided by her kindergarten, knew how to circle the correct answer in four question worksheets and know how to draw a line to match. (using pencils), able to follow patterns give (ABAB) - She is 4 years old.
While I was typing all these, I had to keep in mind that she accomplished all these through ABA with her special needs therapists. In the real scenario of preschool, her report is not as interesting. Her preschool teacher did not apply ABA in teaching and and assessing.
I tried to have her doing independent worksheets or just writing. I prepared her reusable 'workbook' and used markers. BUT is she not able to generalize or is it just because of me? Her alphabet and number recognition, counting, visual discrimination through worksheets are not up to mark.

Today, I ask hubby to do the worksheets with her and she did quite well! Hmmm.... maybe I just have to loosen up. I'll have to dig out all the fun materials I made for her last year and use those again as starters. The worksheets have to wait... or perhaps hubby could take over. Wish me luck!
