Good shopping companion

I am feeling very grateful today. A lot of stories I've read about children with autism who cannot adapt to changes in routine or have serious sensory problems in different places, that the parents have to plan carefully and try to minimize or prevent meltdowns. (I understand that this does not refer to all with the same diagnosis).

Hubby and I went shopping today, with our little girl. She loves going out and is very obedient. She listens to our instructions - not to run far away, to come back, to sit on the bench to wait while mommy have a look at those pretty dresses, - and never once to whine and act up. 

She did want to buy some toys at the toys sections. At first, it was a pack of fish but hubby said no. She has lots of fish toys at home. She obediently put it back. Later she came across cute star pillows. She reached out for a yellow one and at the same time, a green star fell out. She stuffed the yellow star back and picked up the green. Without waiting for daddy to say no, she ran off with it. Hubby told her that she should pay for it first. My little girl went on as hubby directed her to me, to show me the pillow. Later she went off by herself to the paying counter. Hubby had to tell her to wait until we finish shopping. So, for the rest of another half an hour, she held the star pillow which is almost as big as herself, and followed me around until I am done. - and she put the pillow at the counter by herself when I told her that we are paying. Not bad, right?
