It's harder than I thought...
I mentioned that I am an avid reader. Or so I thought. Reading this book took me weeks. I would usually finish any book for leisure reading in a day or two. When I was younger and without family commitments, I'll finish interesting books in one sitting, sometimes into late nights.
But this book. It was meant to be leisure reading when I bought it. I've read several story-type books on autism, but somehow this book is hard to read. Some of the stories are direct reflections of how I am feeling and coping. The authors have the same devastating early moments, the worries, the time of laughter and struggles, and reading them transported me back and forth to the past years, present and even to the unseen future - as they shared their experiences.
Don't get me wrong. This is a good book, offering hope to caretakers and families of children with autism - just be prepared to shed some tears while reading it.
